An example of the Perk System.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is a first-person shooter game, being the fifteenth Call of Duty game in the main franchise and the fifth in the Black Ops franchise which was produced by Treyarch. The game was released on October 12, 2018.

Zombies[]

Elixers:[]

New to zombies in BO4, elixirs are mechanically similar to GobbleGum from Black Ops 3. There are new Elixirs that have new effects, but there are also elixirs that are basically the same as their BO3 gobblegum form. Elixirs are seperated into 5 groups: Classic, Common, Rare, Legendary, and Epic. Classic Elixirs are the same as classic gobblegums since they have infinite uses, but Elixirs that are Common up to Epic are all consumable items that are obtained by using Nebulium Plasma (the BO4 version of BO3's Liquid Divinium). A change to the way that elixirs are done compared to BO3's gobblegum is that fact that you do not have to use a machine to get them. They start in your inventory and you can use them whenever you like, starting a delay between uses when the elixir is activated.

Starting Weapons:[]

Also new in BO4, but still somewhat similar to BO3, is starting weapons. In BO4, you can choose to have a different starting weapon. You create a class (similar to Black Ops: Cold War) consisting of: 4 perks, 4 elixirs, a special weapon, an equipment item, a talisman, and a starting weapon. You can choose a secondary, a tactical rifle, or an SMG from a limited selection presented to you.

Talisman:[]

Talisman are powerful, single-use consumables that give you boons in your game. Coming in rarities of Common, Rare, Legendary, and Epic, you can have something as small as decreasing the cost of a certain perk slot, to something as big as getting an LMG as your starting weapon or getting an extra self-revive.

Equipment:[]

For the first time in Zombies, you are allowed to pick your equipment item. You can choose from the standard frag grenade, an acid grenade, a claymore, a wraith fire grenade, or a sentry turret. These equipment items recharge over time and are refilled by Max Ammos.

Perks:[]

As some might notice, Juggernog, Speed Cola, and Double Tap 2.0 are all gone. This was a creative decision that the devs said was about getting people to stop using crutch perks. Because of this desire, perks were changed. Instead of dedicated perk machines, you have perks that fit a specific perk slot (Brew, Cola, Soda, and Tonic for Victus and Ultimus crews; Danu, Ra, Zeus, and Odin for the Chaos crew). The last perk slot (Tonic/Odin) is important because when you have all 4 perks, then whatever perk is in the Tonic/Odin slot will have a bonus effect that is active. For those worried about the old perks, they are integrated into the game's mechanics.

  • By double pack-a-punching 5 times that specific gun essentially has the effect of Double Tap 2.0
  • When all 4 perks are collected, you automatically get the effects of Speed Cola.
  • Your character has a certain number of self-revives already set for them when they start a solo match.
  • Your health is based on your difficulty, normal giving you 200 HP and Casual difficulty (which gives you many boons at the cost of disabling Easter Eggs) gives you [placeholder_text] HP.

It is worth noting that there are different perks that can fit whatever style that you play, but this system was widely knocked for taking away perks that players loved.
